I didn't know which comment you wanted to be published so I just published both.
Love The Bride and Hannah, I just don't remember Terminator very well so I can't say much about SC. Nope, I haven't seen the two sequels yet (shameonme).
Hahah, Snow White and The Woodsman :D her hair isn't dark as ebony though..Mettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08094234448852441633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-219108510988412397.post-61108161044414039492013-11-06T23:37:37.065+01:002013-11-06T23:37:37.065+01:00Great post Mette. The only other female action characters I liked and have respect for are The Bride from "Kill Bill", Sarah Conner from "T2: Terminator 2, and Hanna from "Snow White and The Woodsman"... Next to Ellen Ripley, the only other female action heroes I like and have respect for is The Bride from Kill Bill and Hanna from Hanna, and Sarah Conner from T2. I do agree that there is more female heroes in the book world for teens but not so much in the movie world. They're two great movies and at least the first one I think would fall under your 'good sci-fi' category.Mettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08094234448852441633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-219108510988412397.post-43727597472648986572013-11-01T16:02:24.352+01:002013-11-01T16:02:24.352+01:00Is that the case? Anyway, they're both great, my favorite is the first though.
I agree that there's a problem with film characters in general. It's hard to build them in comparison to literature of course, but I find it interesting how surprised I am when a character is actually realistic and relatable.Mettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08094234448852441633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-219108510988412397.post-82069918385259300492013-11-01T15:53:34.028+01:002013-11-01T15:53:34.028+01:00I love writing about the experience of watching al...I love writing about the experience of watching all these movies that *everyone* except me has seen. Oh, I've been wanting to watch Ghostbusters ever since I started getting interested in cult films, didn't know she was in that.Mettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08094234448852441633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-219108510988412397.post-61617054021343262982013-10-30T23:45:36.775+01:002013-10-30T23:45:36.775+01:00Maaan she does sound cool. It's a shame there are so few feminine heroes, indeed (although Bond can keep coming back every time).Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12100758997830469219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-219108510988412397.post-71799693652471247082013-10-29T19:25:44.654+01:002013-10-29T19:25:44.654+01:00It's always awesome to see more people hopping...It's always awesome to see more people hopping on board the Alien boat, and how great the film is (along with Aliens, which I am in the minority of preferring to the original, though can agree it isn't a better film per se).

Lovely to see a great post about Ripley, though. They always remind me how awesome she was in the series and, again, your article has done just that. In general, male or female, there needs to be a shift in more real and relatable characters in a lot of mediums, particularly film. It's sad that this is still being say 30+ years from the making of Alien. Hopefully it'll happen...one day.Cherokeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14147334445332458371noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-219108510988412397.post-28842837311528196022013-10-29T18:13:33.506+01:002013-10-29T18:13:33.506+01:00Incredible post! The Alien franchise is my favorite, and Ellen Ripley rightfully is the most badass action hero. Alien3 was David Fincher's first movie, and it was such a drag that he disowned it. Alien Resurrection is a little better, but not by much. They're worth watching though just to see the progression of the series. If you have the chance, definitely youtube the making of James Cameron's Aliens...it's so fantastic to see how much non-digital effort was put into that film! It'll blow your mind.

Check out my piece on 2 important scenes *deleted* from Alien http://bit.ly/16jpPixAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-219108510988412397.post-50433546257249542532013-10-29T17:51:07.470+01:002013-10-29T17:51:07.470+01:00Ooo nice post. She's so fucking kick-ass, it's awesome!
As for Weaver, I can only recommend Ghostbusters. It's a more sexy role but fun nonetheless.Nikhathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10379713171889712078noreply@blogger.com
