[17] The Upcoming Adult Presents: 18 Male Movie Crushes

Sharing 18 of my top female movie crushes in my last post, I saved the real goodies for this one. Because let's face it - attractive actors are still one of the important reasons I watch movies. And one of the things I talk most about when I talk about movies with people that aren't very interested in movies.

Nevertheless, I think that actors are getting too much attention and too much room in movies on a general plan, or at least male characters. Do you remember the last time you watched a movie which had a) one male character only, b) more than one male character, but they don't talk to each other or c) more than one male character, but they only talk about women? I'm referring to the Bechdel test, also known as the "sexist" test for movies - and you know, there are thousands of "acclaimed", successful and "important" movies out there that don't even get a yes for question one, "Is there more than one woman in the movie?". Most movies out there are sexist, and I really want that to change.
So that we can both enjoy the best-looking men on screen, and the most talented women talking to each other on screen, about something else than a man.

Until then, let's enjoy 18 of my male movie crushes in no particular order...

A Streetcar Named Desire, Marlon Brando
First of all, his last name is my last name which makes us... a married couple? Anyway, Stanley Kowalski is more than just a cliché... he's a legend. Of attractiveness.

127 Hours, James Franco
I felt a little uncomfortable watching this because despite the horrible and painful story, I couldn't think about anything than how surprisingly sexy James Franco looked, even when he was going to die any second.

Harry Potter, Rupert Grint
It's not that he's a traditional heartthrob, but there's something about Ron Weasley that just makes you fall for him.

In the Mood for Love, Tony Leung
Not to be racist or anything, but I don't usually find Asian guys to be overly attractive. But when they are, they're just really hot. Like Tony Leung. I even liked him with long hair in "Red..." Red something. Some Chinese blockbuster.

Drive, Ryan Gosling
He doesn't have a name, he doesn't speak much, he's quiet yet lethal. Which woman wouldn't fall for The Driver?

Rebel Without a Cause, James Dean
When women and girls from several different generation have been obsessed with one guy, even one character, there's mostly something about it. And we don't care whether he was gay or not.

Fish Tank, Michael Fassbender
My first Fassy experience... I'll never forget it. Although I had a love-hate relationship with his character.

Grease, John Travolta
There's the weird chin, the big mouth, the hair and the tight trousers... but despite all these things, there's something in Danny's gaze that just makes you want to sing "You're the one that I want... woohoohooo, honey...".

Rang De Basanti, Siddharth
All the talk about girls falling in love with Siddharth after RDB... I can't relate to it. I watched several of his Telugu hits and didn't find him very attractive in them. It's really just Karan who makes my heart beat faster.

Dirty Dancing, Patrick Swayze
Guys must be really mad at Swayze for having played Johnny... because somewhere deep down, don't we all believe that some day, some guy will come along, and he is going to dance with us the way Johnny danced with Baby?

Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio
DiCaprio never was able to live up to the standards he set in Romeo+Juliet and Titanic, look-wise. Good thing there's DVDs.

Cosmopolis, Robert Pattinson
Beneath all the Twilight-glitz, there's a real good-looking guy - who would've thought. Oh, and the suit... the suit!

Atonement, James McAvoy
There's nothing like looking at James McAvoy in a movie... the photos don't even compare.

Harry Potter, Tom Felton
When I started watching and reading Harry Potter, I never expected to fall in love in that way with any of the characters - and now there are two of them in my list!

Pearl Harbor, Josh Hartnett
This is one of my first movie crushes I remember... and I think it still has some influence on what I expected guys to look like. I know, it's terrible.

The Dreamers, Louis Garell
Doesn't he just radiate... well, you know... he just radiates.

Shah Rukh Khan, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
Horrible movie. But it was my first Bollywood movie. And thanks to Shah Rukh, I watched more of them.

The Pillars of the Earth, Eddie Redmayne
I fell for the character Jack when I read the book, and when I watched the mini series it was just like a dream come true.

Honorable mentions:
Patrick (Ezra Miller) - The Perks of Being a Wallflower
George Jung (Johnny Depp) - Blow
Wladyslaw Szpilman(Adrien Brody) - The Pianist

What movie characters have you had a crush on?

  1. Haha LOVE the inclusion of Josh Hartnett in Pearl Harbour. I was crazy about him when I was 13-14.

Love the Gos, Fassy, McAvoy, Grint, Garrel, Leung, Dean and of course, Jack Dawson inclusion.

As sexy as Stanley was, he was such a bastard that apart from the aesthetic value, I couldn't hate him more. Everyone else I love.

One of my inclusions would be Ewan McGregor in Moulin Rouge!

    1. Me too... he used to be all I dreamed of at night ;).

Stanley might have been bastard, but a sexy bastard. Really, really sexy bastard!

As for Ewan McGregor, I don't find him particularly unattractive, but he never was one of the actors I loved for his looks... perhaps he isn't exactly my type. Although I loooove his voice!

  2. ooh la la, brando, jimmy dean, fass, franco and gosling! I'm glad you find draco sexy as well, he's my favorite of HP.

Oh alright, and R-Patz, I admit it!

I feel like a teenager, but I guess crushes don't really go away... I mean, you just learn to control yourself and say "handsome" instead of "hot".

    1. Haha, I considered writing handsome a few times here, but felt it was too mature for an Upcoming Adults list, because I had decided to be as immature as possible in this blogathon.

  4. Fassy in Fish Tank is definitely love and hate but MAN, when he walks into that kitchen and starts making tea... my heart just.. omg. Just thinking back.. omg. And the scene where he carries her and all we hear is their breathing. (L)

    1. Yep, it's like... you can't breathe or even say anything because that would destroy it.
