The Pensieve #5

Do you ever think "What the f*ck am I doing?"?

~ This blog is a movie blog, and movies are a big interest of mine, and that's why I created this blog. Nevertheless, it's the 6th of february already, and I've only seen two movies this month. It's just really hard to either:
 - stop watching Doctor Who
 - stop reading Anna Karenina
 - find time for anything beside my social life, school and my job
PLUS I find it really hard to take the time to concentrate on a movie right now. Perhaps the Kubrick obsession and the Oscar obsession took all power from me, also because there were a lot of mediocre and tiring movies connected with these.

Aha, I'm still obsessed with the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

~ Tumblr is pretty cool... I mean, I could look at this gif forever. In case you noticed, I changed the sidebar a little and added a link of my own brandnew tumblr. Yeah, I used to think that was the last thing I'd ever do.

~ Same for blogathons, but in case you noticed too, I started one myself. To read more, click on the picture in the sidebar or on this link. And please, please, please join.

~ Only one more week until The Perks of Being a Wallflower is out on DVD! Getting ready for the big night, listening to Heroes

~ Apropos; HOW COULD HE? I'm talking about Bowie of course. And his crappy, wannabe-profound, stupid new song about Berlin.

With that, I give the word to my fellow bloggers (sadly I deleted some of the posts I read, so there aren't many here):

Liam Underwood shares Five long takes in movies - a technique that can either be awesome (Hunger) or boring (Amour).

Veracious talks about the 2012 Bollywood movies she watched in January.

I read a lot of other great posts, but as I said, can't find them again :(

The Pensieve #4

Hi, people out there. Above you can see a picture of what I feel like at the moment, and below you can read what I think about at the moment.

~ Hell, I am becoming one of those bloggers who have to apologize for not writing in every single post.

~ If only the day had more hours...

~ Watching Harry Potter inspired me to be a little more motivated about school... I mean I'm really good at school, but I also really think it sucks especially this year. I wish I was done, although there's another part of me that doesn't want to grow up.

~ Movie-talk...
Yeah, it's not going that great with watching more movies... but that's fine.
Anyhow, is it kinda "in" to make these grand, philosophic and confusing movies after The Tree of Life? (#CloudAtlas, #LifeofPi, #LesMisérables?...) Not that I'm complaining, it's finally a trend I dig.

~ Trailers...
Oz: The Great and Powerful is an interesting idea and I'm glad I managed to watch The Wizard of Oz this year. But although it has James Franco & Co., the trailer is slightly typical boring.

I've been wanting to read The Host for a long time because yes, I am one of the people who liked the Twilight books. Saoirse Ronan is always a hit too, so despite the halfways lame trailer, I believe in the story and the star.

I was at the cinema the other day (yes, I was!) and there were a lot of cool trailers. Most impressive one (because I hadn't seen it before) was Cloud Atlas. I was just like "Mystery - check. Atmosphere - check. Beautiful visuals - check. Awesomeness - check?", in my mind of course.

~ My True Blood addiction might have become somewhat dangerously ignoring... You see, I do sense that the quality of the series might be descending... but I love it so much I can't stop seeing it! I hope the fifth season won't be as bad as everyone says.

~ Last night, a book kept me from watching a movie. When did that happen the last time to you? Honestly, I really wanted to watch a new and good movie (28 Days Later) but I couldn't because of that damned Murakami. The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle is my third book of his and I think I'll take a break from him after that. He's just too dangerously addictive (talking about True Blood).

~ So mainly my days have consisted of school work, trips with friends, True Blood and Murakami. In case that's of any interest to you. It feels weird blogging after all that time... like... weird.

The Pensieve #3

~ Sunday means flee market day, and I bought three DVDs:

Finding Nemo (a favourite, I needed it)
Somewhere (the last Sofia Coppola film I need to see - and for 1€...)
and Pulp Fiction (FINALLY! I couldn't find it anywhere, isn't that strange?!)

~ I have a lot of ideas for posts, but I'm also kind of in the middle of a writing project. I just don't know - do I really want to write this novel? And should I write it or should I write my posts/ articles? Is any one of these two occupations more "privileged"?

~ I figured I'll go to the Berlinale Film Festival next year.

~ Does anybody know a good German film magazine? The ones I've tried are more like TV magazines, 10 lines about the story, 1 line about the writer's opinion.

~ Trailers
Aiyaa, the new Rani Mukherji film, looks fun though it could be bad too.
The Company You Keep was so boring I didn't finish watching the trailer.
Hansel and Gretel, I'm not sure whether I like it. The idea and cast is cool, but the trailer is so cliché.
I know I'm late about this, but Seven Psychopaths really does look great, in a universal kind-of way.
De rouille et d'os might be the most pretentious trailer I've seen in a long time. But it does have Marion Cotillard.

~ Links;
Nick from Cinematic Katzenjammer reviews Pixelschatten, a German film that sounds good - can you believe it?!
Gaja Gamini from Bollywood-ish Blog doesn't go crazy about DDLJ.
Tyler from Southern Vision watched 65 movies in a month. !!!!!!
I'm not the only one posting about filmic fashion.

The Pensieve #2

~ It sounds like an echo from the past (because I've said this too often before), but I don't have much time to blog currently. School, getting a driving license, sports and work is what's biggest in my every day life at the moment... most of all, school. But I'll definitely write my Happy New Month post soon and I comment on your blogs from time to time - maybe in the weekend I'll find the time to write a review or something.

~ That's also why I haven't seen any trailers lately, but I hear there's going to be a Taken 2? Aha... didn't really love the first one. And what's with this Side by Side? So many big names!

~ Despite my lack of time, Fabulous Filmic Fashion Friday was supposed to be on today... but I haven't seen any films that felt inspiring, fashionably.

~ This week I'm going to see Woody Allen: A Documentary at the repertory - we missed it yesterday, sadly.

~ Although as I said, many things preoccupy my free and non-free time, I have nonetheless found some time to watch a few movies (which I find more important than blogging, for obvious reasons). Anyhow, I watched a lot of classics that I didn't really love, and most Wes Anderson movies which I all loved. I only need to see Bottle Rocket (short and feature) and Rushmore now.

~ Nothing new on the music front, other than me discovering how much I love the song "Alone Again". So Virgin Suicides.

~ Last but not least some links:

Sanni talks about Lara Dutta, a very underrated Indian actress that sadly doesn't get the good roles often enough.

Alex shares his list of 10 Perfectly Trashy Action Films, and by that admits that he's not an indie snob after all.

Diana saw the new On the Road and has very mixed and interesting feelings about it. What to do now - read it or see it first?

Sati and Stevee share their appreciation of Amy Adams.

Dan reviews the ever-awesome Truman Show that I discovered this year.

Think you've had enough of The Hunger Games reviews for now? Well, Rissi just wrote anotherone that I found interesting.

Before reading this, I had never heard of a person that loved Once so much. It's a good film to love, Ryan.

For the people that miss FFFashionFriday, here's a little post from Clothes on Film on the fashion in Cosmopolis, only me second favourite film this year.

And last but not least, Carla the Filmi Geek found a masala flick that was more or less worth watching - read her review on the latest Salman-Khan-blast Ek Tha Tiger.

The Pensieve #1

~ It was a good week - I watched a lot of classics and I finally saw Cosmopolis. If you haven't seen it, what are you waiting for?

~ How do you decide whether to watch a trailer or not to watch it? To me, this is always a really hard decision. Watching a trailer can trigger a hype or it can destroy it. When the trailer is great, you can be disappointed, and when it's bad you might not see a good movie because of it. At the time I don't watch many new trailers.

~ I also have some new music for you again, which I discovered this week: Bonaparte and my favourite German band Kraftklub, who have made an unofficial album when they were unknown, which I didn't know. You can listen to one of the songs by clicking on the name of the band. And of course Mecca by K'Naan from the Cosmopolis soundtrack.

~ I'm not sure if I write too many reviews? And if I don't comment enough on other people's blogs. If you have this impression please don't be made because I really don't have much time. Plus I like writing reviews currently.

~ This week I saw a couple of the films I said I wanted to see in the Movie Confessions Blogathon, and I only really liked one of them. Anyhow, it's good I saw them.

~ Thanks to everyone who warned me from seeing the new Robin Hood - I did it anyhow and it was boring as hell.

~ Some interesting posts:
  • SDG from U, Me and Films celebrates Indian Independence Day with five films that relate to the topic.
  • Alex from And so it begins... shares some of Brad Pitt's best performances. I should really see Se7en soon.
  • Dan from Public Transportation Snob lists his 5 most anticipated films of the rest of 2012.

~ I shifted the "You Might Also Like" widget from LinkWithin to Outbrain because I didn't like many of the recommendations. The new one is much smarter.

Have a nice Sunday! - And in case my grandmother reads this, I wish you a happy birthday here too Oma!

The Pensieve

~ Hi everyone, this is the new feature on this blog, which is called The Pensieve. It's about me sharing or just throwing my thoughts out there, so that my head doesn't explode. Harry Potter style. And I will start with this right now.

~ I just wrote the Barfi and I M 24 film previews for the ISHQ magazine, and Barfi is looking oh-so-best-Indian-film-of-2012. Not just because it reminds me of Amélie. But actually I think Ranbir's chemistry with Ileana is much better than with Priyanka. I'm getting tired of Priyanka currently.

~ I started doing ballet three times a week instead of two, but I hope I'll still have time to blog and watch movies. Movies isn't all, as they say. (Do they?).

~ Next week Cosmopolis will run at our repertory cinema. I'm excited.

~ Isn't the Lana Del Rey album just absolutely fantastic? The more I listen to it, the more I love it. The same goes for the Katy Perry MTV Unplugged album. Her best by far.

~ This weekend was full of classics. Okay, I watched two, but that was all I watched anyhow. Vertigo was all right, but the 50s just don't seem to be my era. It's so stiff. Little Big Man was a much greater pleasure. There is something about what they say about the 70s.

~ Wow, there's nothing more on my mind? That's great!
