Updating my 100 Favourite Movies List

Many an unexpected task has kept my from assembling an updated version of the list of my 100 Favourite Movies, but here it is, the final momentary compilation of movies that have had an unusually great impact on me.

The list of my favourite movies is not supposed to be a list of the "best" films I have seen, apart from the fact that even this term is argumentative. Rather than being "good" in an objective way, these are movies that have made me laugh, smile, cry or sing. They've touched something in my mind (I prefer this term to heart) and perhaps made me wonder, ask questions I had never thought of, or delivered answers I'd have never guessed.
While there is a tendency towards violence-gloryfying, stylish cult films with great soundtracks, blue eyed actors and a poetic undertone, I believe that you can find films from any genre and many different decades in the list - a great progress since the initial one from some time in 2011.

The order in which the movies are listed is also to be noticed with attention, as ranking your favourite and most beloved movies is one of the hardest tasks I know - anyone who has tried or succeeded in creating such a list will agree. Which movie is perfect for what kind of situation and mood, is an important factor here. Another thing I would like you to consider is that most of the newly added films are ones I have seen a short while ago. My opinion on them may change during time, which is also the reason why many of them belong to the the lower ranks.
A great exception from this rule, and a first timer for that, is Fight Club, which immediately made it to my top 3 favourite films. As far as I expect, it's going to stay there.

All of this being said, I hope you enjoy browsing through the list, remembering some of your fondest favourites and perhaps being inspired to discover some new ones.

PS: This post also signals my decision to keep on blogging on a regular base. I have decided that it's something I love, because I'm able to express myself without any boundaries, and this is such a wonderful community. So, have fun and we'll meet again soon!

Why is Dil Se my favorite movie? or All the things I love about Dil Se..

Any great movie could be my favorite one, a thought that made me shiver of fear when I first tried to put together my 100 Favorite Films list. But it happened to not just be any movie, but a movie that had followed me through many years and that has never stopped intriguing me every time I watch it.

Having finished the list, there was suddenly no other movie I could imagine, that could be my favorite. The thought surprised, even unsettled me - after all, I hadn't actually seen Dil Se.. for about two years. It was time to finally re-watch it with eyes that are quite different from the ones of my 13-year old predecessor.

I was scared but also excited. And you know what? I feel I admire and love this film even more than I did before. Dil Se.. is not flawless, objectively speaking - so what makes it so special to me?

That's what I want to find out in this post, namely by listing all the things I love about this film. Of course I won't be able to fully understand and explain the greatness of this film, I know that - but it's an attempt that I have to do. And an excuse to make a lot of screencaps.

ALL THE THINGS I LOVE ABOUT DIL SE..

Introducing two brand-new features...

It was somewhat a coincidence, that the first two films I would watch this year are the currently most popular film (according to the IMDB), and the film that is currently on top of my 100 Favorite Films list.
My first thought was: I have to write about these two.

Slowly, an idea began taking shape in my mind... why not re-watch all of my current favorite films? It has been so hard to put the list together, and I'm still not a 100% sure if I really rated the films the way I would rate them if I had seen them recently. Because, as we all know, tastes change during time.
And why not... why not try to watch and re-watch the current most popular films of all time? It's only 250 pieces, not as overwhelming as the famous 1001 I'm working on too. And most certainly, a lot of the most popular films must also be included in the Bible of Films, don't they?

I know I won't be able to do this in one year, except if I stop watching any new releases and other unknown films. This is a project that will take time, but I'm willing to try.
Challenge accepted, as Barney would say (what, you don't know who Barney is?! ...well, this is neither the time nor the place).

By the way, don't expect (or fear) over-long ramblings about current or new favorites, or films that I can't believe people would like. Most of the posts will be of a rather short length, considering the quantity of films I will be writing about - I need to have time to watch, too. Oh, and leisure time of course. Which is the time when I watch movies. Okay, then... time when my friends, family or teachers would like to either see me or see me doing something that is important.

I think I will write a lot of "x thoughts on..." sort of posts. I can also already tell you that I probably won't be able to properly review my nr. 1 favorite, but I'll think of something.
Another thing that is more or less luckily related to my Discovery of 100 Favorite Films, is that I'll try buying a lot of the DVDs that I don't own yet. Lucky, because I will have more good DVDs, and the makers of my favorite films will earn money... unlucky because I'll have to spend money on it.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the new features, and are ready to come with me on this journey.
PS: Some kind of 2011 retrospect post or post series is also coming up, so keep an eye out.
